How to get reliable results with 9:16 Vertical Video Safe Zone Checker

Preview how TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts interface elements can cover a 1080×1920 composition, then export a transparent editing overlay.

What this tool helps you control

  • Inspect a local image or video without uploading the source file.
  • Switch between measured TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts obstruction profiles.
  • Compare standard TikTok controls with the larger Shop ad bottom zone.
  • Highlight a conservative 900×1400 cross-platform safe box.
  • Download a full-resolution transparent PNG overlay for common video editors.

Quick workflow

  1. 01Drop a vertical image or video into the browser, or start with the built-in sample frame.
  2. 02Select the destination platform and enable TikTok Shop mode when the post uses shopping or ad UI.
  3. 03Check that faces, product details, captions, and calls to action remain outside the colored danger zones.
  4. 04Toggle the universal safe box when one master export must work across multiple platforms.
  5. 05Download the 1080×1920 PNG and place it on a locked guide layer in your editor.

What a vertical-video safe zone actually protects

A 1080×1920 frame describes the media file, not the amount of screen viewers can use. Short-form apps place navigation, account information, captions, engagement buttons, sound labels, and shopping controls on top of the video. Those controls vary by platform and may also change between app versions, devices, regions, and post types. A safe zone is therefore a production margin: an area where essential visual information is less likely to be hidden, not a guarantee that every interface will remain identical forever.

Treat red and amber regions as high-risk areas for meaning, not as areas that must always remain empty. Background texture, motion, and decorative shapes can continue beneath the interface. Protect the elements that a viewer must read or recognize: eyes, mouth, product name, price, subtitle baseline, step number, button label, and final call to action. When a shot looks balanced only because an important subject sits under the right-side icon stack, the exported video will feel broken even though the source composition looked correct.

How the platform profiles differ

TikTok uses a top band for discovery and tabs, a right column for engagement controls, and a substantial bottom region for descriptions, audio, navigation, and promotional surfaces. The optional Shop mode increases the lower protected region because commerce units can occupy more vertical space. Instagram Reels generally needs a generous top and bottom margin for account and action controls. YouTube Shorts also reserves a right action column and bottom information area. The checker scales these measurements from a 1080×1920 reference into the browser preview.

These profiles are intentionally explicit numbers rather than vague “keep it near the center” advice. A measured overlay makes teams discuss the same reference and allows an editor to align guides precisely. Platform layouts still evolve, so verify critical campaigns on a current physical device before launch. If the live interface differs, use this checker as a conservative baseline and update your editor guides. Do not crop a finished campaign based only on an old screenshot from a different phone aspect ratio.

Use the universal safe box for one master composition

The 900×1400 universal box is centered inside the 1080×1920 canvas, leaving ninety pixels on both horizontal sides and 260 pixels above and below. It is deliberately more conservative than the raw frame. Keeping the central subject and essential text inside this box makes it easier to publish one vertical master across TikTok, Reels, and Shorts without rebuilding every title card. It is especially useful for explainers, talking characters, product demos, and animated captions that must survive several interfaces.

Universal does not mean every decorative element must fit inside the cyan border. Full-bleed backgrounds should still fill the frame, and motion may deliberately enter from outside. Use the box to protect meaning and use the platform profile to review the final placement. If a campaign is strategically important, create platform-specific versions: move lower thirds, reposition product packs, and adjust the call to action for each interface rather than accepting the compromises of one universal layout.

Review captions, faces, and product shots separately

Captions require more than simply staying above the bottom mask. Check line length, line count, font weight, contrast, and the moment each line appears. A safe caption block can still be unreadable if it is too wide, too small, or placed over a high-detail background. Two short lines near the lower-middle region are usually more robust than four lines touching the interface. Keep any highlighted keyword or karaoke effect within the same safe area so the emphasis is not clipped.

Faces and products need different margins. A face can extend into decorative space if the eyes and expression remain clear, while a product label or screen recording may require the entire critical rectangle to stay visible. Review the hook frame, the densest caption frame, the product reveal, and the final call to action—not only the opening still. For uploaded video, scrub through the timeline and pause on each important beat because a safe starting pose does not protect later motion.

Import the transparent PNG into an editing timeline

The download button creates a 1080×1920 transparent PNG in your browser. Import it into Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, or another editor and place it above your footage. Set the overlay layer to full frame with no scaling, lock the track, and keep it visible while positioning text and subjects. The red or amber areas indicate interface risk, grid lines support alignment, and the cyan rectangle represents the optional universal safe box.

Disable or delete the overlay before export. If your editor automatically fits media to the sequence, confirm that the PNG is mapped one-to-one with a 1080×1920 sequence rather than stretched into a landscape timeline. You can download separate overlays for each platform and keep them as disabled guide layers. Name the tracks clearly so another editor does not accidentally render one into the finished video.

Privacy, limitations, and a responsible final check

The checker uses URL.createObjectURL, a browser feature that gives the page a temporary local reference to a selected file. The image or video is not uploaded to a 916Studio server. The reference lasts only within the browser session and is released when you replace or clear the media. The exported overlay contains the guides only; it does not include the uploaded image or a frame from the video. This makes the tool suitable for reviewing unreleased creative without creating an additional transfer step.

Safe-zone measurements cannot predict every experiment a platform may run. Interface density can change with captions, accessibility settings, commerce features, advertising formats, language, and device shape. Before publishing a paid campaign or high-value launch, upload a private test or draft, inspect it on the target app, and check multiple phones if possible. Use the checker to catch placement mistakes early, then use live-platform review as the final authority.

Frequently asked questions

Does the checker upload my image or video?

No. The selected file is displayed through a temporary local browser URL and is not sent to a 916Studio server.

Are these safe zones guaranteed for every phone?

No. They are practical 1080×1920 production guides. Platforms can change their UI and run device- or region-specific layouts, so verify important work in the current app.

What is the TikTok Shop danger zone?

It is a larger bottom protection area for videos that may show commerce or advertising controls. It changes the bottom guide from 350 to 484 pixels.

What does the 900×1400 universal box mean?

It is a conservative centered region for essential subjects and text when one master composition needs to work across TikTok, Reels, and Shorts.

Can I use the downloaded overlay in CapCut or Premiere Pro?

Yes. It is a transparent 1080×1920 PNG. Add it above your footage as a guide layer, keep it at full size, and hide it before export.

Does the overlay include my uploaded media?

No. The PNG contains only danger-zone fills, guide lines, labels, and the optional universal safe box.
